Nikola Ilić & Augustin Dokoza Bukvić - Microsoft Fabric – Fast Track!

This one-day seminar is intended for data and analytics professionals who want to understand how to design, implement, and use Microsoft Fabric effectively. It provides a practical, end-to-end overview of Fabric’s key components, including OneLake, data ingestion and transformation options, lakehouse and warehouse choices, and the evolving role of Power BI within Fabric. Participants will also gain insight into AI capabilities, security, CI/CD, and licensing, and will apply their knowledge through hands-on labs to build a complete analytics solution.

Course will take place on June 12, 2026 at Hotel International Zagreb, Miramarska cesta 24, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia.

Session abstract

Summary

Microsoft Fabric has taken the analytics world by storm! Described by Satya Nadella as “the biggest Microsoft data product since SQL Server,” Fabric has rapidly found its place in many organizations—either as a way to modernize existing data platforms or as a completely new analytics solution.

Microsoft Fabric is positioned as a SaaS offering. Not having to worry about infrastructure, updates, or configuring individual components certainly makes life easier. However, in many cases, that “easier life” comes at a cost—Fabric is often used incorrectly or not to its full potential. On top of that, Microsoft Fabric provides multiple ways to accomplish the same task.

So which option is the right one? What factors influence the choice of components? Should data be stored in a lakehouse or a warehouse? If I’ve spent years working with Power BI, what has changed with the arrival of Fabric? These are just some of the most common questions and dilemmas faced by anyone considering the implementation of Microsoft Fabric.

This workshop is designed as a definitive guide to answering all of the questions above (and many more related to Fabric). We’ll start by introducing the key components of the Fabric platform, with a special focus on OneLake as the central foundation of the entire solution. We’ll explore common data ingestion and transformation scenarios and analyze the different options Fabric provides in this area. A dedicated section of the workshop focuses on Fabric from a Power BI developer’s perspective—what’s changing, what needs to be learned, and which skills should be upgraded. And of course, no modern platform is complete without AI—this is also a topic we’ll cover. We’ll also address less “flashy” but equally important topics such as security, CI/CD, and licensing.

Learning about Fabric is useful, but getting your hands dirty is even better. That’s why we’ve prepared several hands-on labs where you’ll experiment with different Fabric components and, by the end, build a fully functional analytics solution.

Prerequisites

  • A laptop (we assume it’s more convenient than bringing a desktop 😀)
  • A Fabric license (a commercial license is not required—a Fabric Trial is sufficient)
  • Basic knowledge of data analytics (data modeling, ETL, and similar concepts)
